Normalize before you negotiate
Recruiters love to quote gross. You should think in net, after-tax, after-housing terms.
The three numbers to extract
- Effective tax rate at your bracket in the target country.
- Housing share of net income at the lifestyle you want.
- Discretionary residual — what is left for savings, travel, family.
Once you have those three for each offer, the 'best' job is usually obvious. The flashiest one rarely wins.
